What do we do?
Quite simply, we provide car insurance to UK consumers.
We sell insurance directly through our website and also via price comparison sites where we regularly make it on to the ‘top 10 sellers’ list. We offer a Defaqto 5 Star rated product, meaning our car insurance provides one of the highest quality offerings currently on the market.
We were recently recognised in an Insurance Times and Consumer Intelligence report as one of the ‘Biggest Risers’ in the industry in recognition of our work to ensure customer satisfaction. And customers rate us 4.4 out of 5 on review site, Feefo.
We like to think we’re a bit different to other insurers because we’re striving for simplicity in an industry that’s overrun with complexity and jargon. The concept of ‘simply driven’ is at the heart of everything we do both internally and externally.
What’s our story?
Our proud parent company is First Central Group (FCG), a private limited company that was established in 2008 with the aim of selling and underwriting personal motor insurance within the EU.
The Group is based in Guernsey and this is where all Board and Executive meetings are held, and decisions are made. It’s also where our finance company 1ST CENTRAL Finance Limited is located, along with our web and systems developers.
Meanwhile, we have our own underwriting company based in Gibraltar, which is responsible for establishing the overall pricing of the Group’s motor products.
We started out with just 62 employees in one office, but soon grew, and we now have almost 800 employees working across multiple locations. Haywards Heath in West Sussex is where the majority of our people are based.
In 2015 we opened Central House, our state-of-the-art office in Haywards Heath. Then in 2016 we expanded even further and opened a new office in Salford, Manchester.
1ST CENTRAL was launched to take advantage of the development of price comparison websites. In October 2008, we sold our first policy through our link with GoCompare and soon established ourselves on the UK’s other main price comparison sites, Confused, MoneySupermarket and CompareTheMarket. We’re now a consistent top 10 seller through these channels.
In 2013, we sold our one millionth policy, and just two years later we reached the two million milestone. We currently have more than 350,000 customers, representing more than 1% of the UK motor insurance market.
As you can see, we’re a fast growing, agile company, quickly making a name for ourselves in the world of car insurance. And our success? Well, that’s entirely down to our talented people, who we know are our biggest asset.
