Find out what we got up to this May at 1st CENTRAL
We’ve surpassed our fundraising target
After a hectic year of fundraising from all our employees we’re excited to announce that we’ve hit our £40,000 fundraising target for St Peter & St James Hospice. Alongside that we’ve also raised over £5,000 for Francis House Hospice…and that figure is still climbing.
The fun-draising (get it?) doesn’t stop there though; we’re currently in the process of voting for our 2017 Charities of the Year. We’ve got some rather big plans in store so keep an eye out for what we get up to - we promise it’ll be bigger and better than ever before.
Learning at Work Week
Every year we hold a week-long event called ‘Learning at Work Week’, this is where our people can take a step back from their normal roles and learn something new and exciting. Whether it’s learning about how other departments work, discovering all about pensions (this is an important life skill) or picking up some knitting needles and learning how to make a scarf, we had a whole variety of sessions for our people to get involved in and we’re pleased to share that it went brilliantly.
Not only does Learning at Work Week encourage people to try something new, we also like to encourage a bit of friendly departmental competition in the form of a pub quiz. This year’s quiz featured lots of tasty pizzas and we even managed to organise a bar where all the proceeds went to charity. The night was a great success and we even raised over £400 for our charities across both our Haywards Heath and Manchester sites.
Helping the community
There’s been a lot of volunteering activity going on this month at 1ST CENTRAL.
Each year we give each employee one day to take part in giving back to the local community, whether that’s doing some gardening work at a local hospice or taking dogs for a walk at an animal shelter, we arrange lots of fun and rewarding days for our people to get involved in.
This May we had seven, yes you read that right, seven different volunteering opportunities. These included Raystede Animal Welfare Centre, gardening at St. Peters and St. James Hospice and a number of Rockinghorse events.
The cricket team suffers their first defeat of the season
Now that summers started to make its presence all of the summer sports are making a comeback.
The 1ST CENTRAL cricket team dusted off their cricket whites in a battle of Haywards Heath against local company, Affinity Sutton. Unfortunately, 1ST CENTRAL were unable to keep pace and fumbled a number of important catches to allow Affinity Sutton to clinch the victory.
With summer barely on the ground, we’re sure there will be plenty of other opportunities over the coming months for the 1ST CENTRAL cricket team to demonstrate their winning flare.
The netball season is back on
The 1ST CENTRAL Flyers are back on the court and have made a phenomenal start to the season.
Riding high after winning the winter league, the girls shook off the cobwebs from the mid-season break with two dominating performances in a row to get the season off to a flying start – we love a pun.
