Office Supervisor & Marketing Support
Amanda looks after our Manchester office and supports our Marketing team based in Haywards Heath.
I’m the Office Supervisor & Marketing Support at our Manchester office. It’s essentially two jobs in one! I’m responsible for the smooth running of the office and delivering support to our Marketing department, which is based in Haywards Heath. This includes things like comms, events and planning. It’s the perfect role for me as I love a challenge!
How long have you been working at 1ST CENTRAL?
I started in March 2016. I was here to see the launch of the office and it’s great to see how settled everyone is since we moved.
Tell us about your career path at 1ST CENTRAL.
When I first started, the office was looking to set up a Fun Central team and I was really eager to get on board. We began as a team of two, and I loved planning events alongside my original role in third party claims.
The team has continued to expand and we’re now firing on all cylinders, helping to plot the Fun Central calendar for the year and incorporating budgets and strategies for events. It’s been a brilliant learning curve for someone like me, who started out with no event management experience!
Not long after Fun Central was up and running I jumped on board the Employee Consultative Committee (ECC), collaborating with both offices to deliver important business messages and discuss employee issues.
My ECC role keeps me in contact with key areas of the business. It also helps me network and feed back to the right places, providing employees with the results they want on issues that they may face in the workplace.
Earlier this year, a job became available on the portal for a new Office Manager, with a view to supporting Marketing. I told myself not to bother applying as I had no qualifications and no experience outside of the company in either role. After chatting with HR and Marketing about what the role required, I changed my mind and decided to apply.
I’m so glad I did. The day I got the call telling me I had the job, I couldn’t believe it, but I was assured that I had ticked all the boxes at the interview and I should be proud of myself for being brave and going for it. I encourage anyone to take the leap if you’ve dreamed of doing something a bit different.
What do you love about your current role?
I love the variety. All my roles fit around each other and it’s nice to be known not just for filling up the tea cannister or handing out post, but leading the amazing Fun Central team and supporting the Marketing department with all the exciting new events and developments within the company.
What’s the best thing about 1ST CENTRAL as a company?
The fact they nurture growth. I wanted to put a lot on my plate from day one and was encouraged every step of the way. I feel rewarded for a job well done and feedback is always well constructed and helpful to my development.
What did you want to be as a kid?
I always wanted to be a chef. I got braver and braver with my decisions and finally took the plunge to work in a French restaurant in 2012. It wasn’t for the faint hearted – 60 hours a week in a boiling hot kitchen doesn’t look good on anyone. I really pushed myself to succeed and proved how far I can go if I apply myself.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
I’m very much still the chef at home. In my spare time I attend cookery courses and host Victorian-style dinner parties.
Who would play you in the movie about your life?
I think it would have to be shared out between 2 or 3 people, I’ve always got a lot going on!
