So you’ve been offered a job with us and are about to start working here? Congratulations! We look forward to welcoming you to the team.
Starting a job with a new company can be a bit daunting, but help is at hand as we’ve put together a little guide on what you can expect on your first day here at 1ST CENTRAL.
If you’ve not already received it, you should be getting a welcome pack through your letterbox very soon, which is full of lots of useful information including our company policies and values.
A team member will contact you the week before you’re due to start with us, to check that you have everything you need, that you know where to come on your first day, and what time you should arrive.
If you'll be based in Haywards Heath we have two offices here, so make sure you know which one to come to. Take a look at how to find us, where you’ll also find information on public transport and parking.
When you arrive for your first day, you’ll spend the morning meeting your new team and being introduced to lots of new faces. Don’t worry, we’re a friendly bunch! You’ll also be shown around the building so you know where all the important things are, like fire exits, toilets and tea and coffee making facilities.
Your manager will advise the best time for you to go to lunch and it’s up to you whether you want to go out and about to explore the local area, or stay in the office and relax in the chillout area, which has microwaves, toasters and vending machines for all your lunch needs.
If you decide to get out and about, here’s our guide to the local amenities.
The town centre is about a 10-minute walk from Central house and has a wide selection of food places, including Marks & Spencer, Greggs, KFC, Nero, Costa and Tesco Express, as well as independent cafes and bakeries.
You’ll also find a number of high street stores like Boots, Superdrug, Next and Fat Face, as well as the major banks and a post office located in The Co-Op.
Closer to the office is The Broadway, which has a number of bars and restaurants including Pizza Express, Café Rouge and Prezzo. The Broadway is a popular place to go for drinks after work on a Friday. Some places will even give you a discount if you show your staff ID pass. You’ll also get a Haywards Heath Local Loyalty card
, which gives you up to 10% off at certain places in the town.
As well as Sainsburys, which is less than a 10-minute walk from Gemini House and has a Starbucks, pharmacy and cash point, there are also a number of small cafes situated near the station, which offer hot and cold meals. The Burrell Arms is the nearest pub, and this is often the location of choice for after work drinks on a Friday for all Gemini residents.
The Broadway is just a 10-minute walk up the hill, where you’ll find lots of bars and restaurants, and the town centre is within 20 minutes.
Within the Exchange Quay complex, there's a Costa Coffee, Cafe on the Quays and Londis. There's also a Metrolink station where you can get a tram to the city centre, which takes about 20 minutes.
We want to ensure you’re as prepared as you possibly can be prior to starting your role with us, and with this in mind, we run monthly inductions. The length of your induction will very much depend on your role. Contact Centre employees will be provided with the full 3-week induction, while others can choose from a range of relevant buzz sessions (we like to call them Pick ‘n’ Mix).
In addition, you’ll be invited to our 1ST
CENTRAL Experience Day, where you’ll learn all about our business, our people and your future. This session is run by a member of our Learning & Development team and is for all new starters, so you’ll get the chance to meet other newbies just like you. Your manager will advise when your Experience Day and induction will be.
